ORCA-D2: A Unique Solution For Dual Wavelength Imaging

Hamamatsu's new ORCA-D2 dual CCD camera captures simultaneous dual wavelength images with a full field of view, even when the intensities differ significantly. The ORCA-D2's unique combination of simultaneous dual wavelength imaging, selectable wavelengths, and wide field of view is not found in other approaches to dual wavelength imaging. In addition, this camera provides automatic correction of focus, alignments, and color shifting to produce high-quality images. Designed around two CCDs each with 1.3 million pixels and 6.45 µm pixel pitch, the ORCA-D2 utilizes an interchangeable optical block to divert light towards the CCDs. This camera is suitable for various microscopy applications, including ratio imaging, single and dual wavelength fluorescence microscopy, FRET, blue to NIR fluorescence applications, colocalization and FISH applications, dual wavelength TIRF microscopy, real-time confocal microscopy, combined transmission and fluorescence imaging, and multi-focal point imaging. Available in spring 2010. For more info, go to http://sales.hamamatsu.com.

ELECTROGEN™ Electron Generator Array (EGA) is a "cold" electron source providing a large dense electron flux and zero warm-up time. The ELECTROGEN™ arrays consist of millions of precision glass tubes fused together to produce a uniform and mechanically rigid structure.

ELECTROGEN™ EGAs will not burn out because no heat-up and stabilization period is required. EGAs need minimal maintenance compared with filament sources, while providing much higher current densities. When a voltage is applied across the thickness, each one of the millions of pores produces a beam of electrons, resulting in an electron flux that is extremely uniform and dense.

In mass spectrometry applications, ELECTROGEN™ arrays can be used as the electron source in electron impact ionization sources for beam line monitoring, display devices, electron scrub sources, wafer discharge, and ion and electron impact ionization. ELECTROGEN™ is available from 3-mm to 150-mm sizes, and in standard and custom configurations.

Visible And Infrared Absorbers

Exciton's new absorbing dyes, or "absorbers," can provide selective or broadband light filtering throughout the visible and near infrared. Absorbers with relatively narrow absorption bands filter out IR light with low visible color even at high optical densities. They can be used for selective laser wavelength filters and for security applications. Narrowband absorbers can be combined with visible light-absorbing dyes to create sharp cutoff longpass filters. LASER & PHOTODIODE SUBMOUNTS

Zero Pullback Submounts With
Cost-Effective Gold Tin Finish For Laser Diodes

Remtec, Inc. provides a reliable single-source solution for high- power laser diode submounts combining a burr-free Zero Pullback™ copper metallization of 25 to 75 µm with an economical gold-tin finish. The 3 to 12 µm thick gold tin alloy composition varies from 72/28 to 80/20. Submounts are produced on BeO and AlN ceramics using Remtec's time-proven PCTF® (Plated Copper on Thick Film) technology. A barrier metal under an AuSn layer prevents gold enrichment, and a protective cap layer is applied on the AuSn layer to avoid oxidation and provide void-free solder joints. A combination of an inexpensive thick film technology, with an economical copper and gold-tin plating process, results in substantially lower cost than thin film submounts using a base metallization with gold-tin deposited via evaporation or sputtering processes. PCTF manufacturing technology and processes enable Remtec to offer lower cost laser diodes without any compromise in performance or quality. For more information, visit www.remtec.com.

MERCRON offers light-controllers for both fluorescent lamps and LEDs. A comparison is therefore, beneficial:

Fluorescents are naturally diffused light sources, whereas LEDs require separate diffusers, an added expense.

LEDs are suited to small areas; fluorescents are better for large areas. If a given LED system illuminates a 12" length for x-dollars, a 60" length will cost 5-times as much. But a fluorescent system could illuminate the greater length for not even 50% more.

White LEDs and fluorescents use the same phosphors to make white light, so both are subject to similar decay curves, especially when driven at high output. However, fluorescents are much less expensive to replace.

LED's are naturally directional light sources, but so are fluorescent apertures. And finally, fluorescents are extremely efficient: 110 lumens per watt.

Control the Lamp; Control the Light; Control the Quality… and the costs with MERCRON's regulated light!

10 kV Opto-diode from VMI

Make your own opto-coupler with VMI's newest 10 kV opto-diode, the OZ100SG. Or let us do it for you! Targeted for optimum light transmission at 880 nm to 950 nm, the OZ100SG opto-diode features long-term stability and excellent isolation voltage.

The OZ100SG is a light-sensitive diode encapsulated in an optically clear material. When the junctions of the reverse-biased photodiode are exposed to light, Leakage Current (Ir) is generated. Leakage current is proportional to the exposure level of light, and is linear at a constant temperature.

Approximate dimensions are .490" length x .180" square (11.43 mm x 4.57 mm square).

Use the OZ100G to build customized opto-couplers to protect sensitive electronic equipment, eliminate group loops, or as an interface between two current isolated systems.

The OZ100SG is RoHS compliant.

Electrical features include:

  • 10 kV Vrwm
  • 500 mA Io
  • 3000 ns Trr
  • Axial-leaded
  • High isolation
  • Long-term stability

SPATIAL LIGHT MODULATORS

THIN FILM COATINGS & OPTICAL FILTERS

Ultrafast Pulse Shaping

The MIIPS® Box 640 is our top-of-the-line, high-resolution, ultrafast pulse shaper, designed for the most demanding applications. It is based on 640-pixel liquid crystal spatial-light modulator. It features our proprietary MIIPS® technology through simple GUI and USB connections. Like all our pulse shapers, it includes automatic ‘push-button' 3-in-1 functionality of pulse measurement, pulse compression (dispersion compensation), and arbitrary pulse shaping. It works with any ultrafast laser system with output in the (480 to 1700 nm) wavelength range. This award-winning system removes the limits and measurement ambiguities from ultrafast research, eliminates manual tweaking, and increases productivity and reliability. Applications include removing high-order dispersion and increasing signal and selectivity in multiphoton microscopy, pulse-train synthesis for nonlinear optical spectroscopy, and coherent control of laser induced processes. For less demanding applications we offer more compact pulse shapers (femtoJock™ and femtoFit™) based on 128-pixel modulators.

VIBRATION ISOLATION

WAVELENGTH STABELIZED LASERS

Minus K® vibration isolators employ a patented revolutionary Negative-Stiffness technology in low-frequency vibration isolation. This is the same technology Minus K uses in custom vibration isolators for JPL and NASA.

Isolators are used for AFMs, SPMs, SEMs, TEMs, metrology, micro-hardness testers, microscopy, analytical balances, audio turntables, lasers, and optics. The vibration isolators are low-cost, passive, vacuum adaptable systems and require no air or electricity.

Products include bench tops, workstations, and floor platforms that provide six degrees of freedom. Our standard systems handle up to 650 lbs. and guarantee 1/2-Hz natural frequencies making them effective against low-frequency building vibrations. We also design and manufacture custom systems, large and small, end user or OEM.

Minus K's vibration isolators are typically 10 to 100 times better than air tables and even better than the higher-priced active systems. Over 2,000 scientists in 35 countries have selected Minus K's isolators for their labs.
